Alex Murray-Leslie is Professor of Digital Performance at the Trondheim Academy of Fine Art, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). She is also an Honorary Professor at the University of Technology Sydney’s School of Computer Science, Faculty of Engineering and IT. Her practice spans artivism, pop music, and telematic/streamart improvisation, and is characterised by long-term collaborations across art, society, technology, academia, and industry.
Murray-Leslie is co-founder of the art band Chicks on Speed, an internationally recognised queer feminist collective, who throughout their career have repeatedly addressed social, cultural, and political issues in a successful and often controversial manner. Their work engages feminism and gender politics, anti-capitalism and surveillance, critique of culture and the media, and fundamental questions of democracy, humanism, and activism, while consistently championing artistic freedom and freedom of expression
